After seeing this car in person at Amelia Island Concours where it took best in show for competition cars recently, we have been wanting to post these period photos of it. The car was restored by Chris Charleton and his shop Classic Car Services for Harry Yeaggy. It has also won the prestigious best of show award at The Pebble Beach Concours in 2007.
Jenkins adapted a 1,650 cubic inch Curtiss Conqueror V12 engine to the car for this the run and refitted the 1935 Duesenberg SJ Special engine J-557 (its previous powerplant) built by Augie Duesenberg after setting the record. Jenkins slightly modified the body by adding doors and a rudimentary top and removing the head fairing. The Mormon Meteor’s single headlight remained. The exhaust pipe was dropped below the door to get its heat away from the passenger. Jenkins then drove the car on the road for some twenty thousand miles after that.
