A Fun 1930 Flix – Robert Dodge and His Really Cheap Car

Home made motorized childs car

* Updated * Reader Tin Indian has found out quite a bit more information about Robert Dodge, who was from Germantown, Pennsylvania. You can read a short newspaper report here covering both Robert and the car. He has also found another film that is more detailed, filled with other kids and you can watch Robert drive the car and visit a filling station at Critical Past.

This priceless news clip really hits close to home and brought back a lot of memories, because in the early-to-mid-1960s, your editor followed the same path as Robert Dodge did with his own home-built car. This short video shows Robert start-up his little one-cylinder car, head on down the street and then be apprehended by a pair of Motorcycle Policeman on an Indian and a Harley-Davidson. The video is courtesy of British Pathe. Thanks to reader Roy Cousins of the UK for informing us about it.
