A Near New Stanley

Automobile photos were very important back in the early days. Just being able to own one back then was quite a thing as they were very expensive. Generally when someone bought one they also had a professional photographer record the occasion. Thanks to this, many of these photos have survived and given us a glimpse into automobile ownership at the time.

This photo of an early, possibly 10 horsepower Stanley Steamer and the occupants, is a good example of this pride in ownership and the new car photo.

Definitely 10hp, but pinning down the exact year and model is hard without a peek at the front axle. A good guess is 1910 model 60. The license plate might be NJ.

Looks like a 1912 Illinois plate on the front. It was a perforated plate-riddled with holes to allow airflow to keep the radiator cool. A feature obviously lost in this case.
