We here at The Old Motor are very pleased to announce that the Seal Cove Auto Museum has joined us as a partner. They are going to be sharing some of their photographs that were collected by founder Richard Paine with us. We hope that if you can you will support them and plan a visit to the museum this summer at Mount Desert Island on the beautiful Maine seacoast (they open for the season Sunday, May 1). Before your visit be sure to visit the vehicle collection on the very nice website they have. You can also access the website anytime from the banner ad on the side of our site.
We are starting off with some excellent Packard photos from the original Packard photo album above, in which Richard kept his collection of Packard photos dating thru 1915. The photo below is from 1901, the third year of Packards production. It is a Model C and appears to be a single-seat roadster which sold for $1500. It was the first Packard with a steering wheel and featured a single-cylinder engine with a 6″ x 6.5″ bore and stroke with 12 hp. Note the unique double-transverse spring front suspension.
