This post contains a pair of short films showing two shops, that in this day and age are fast becoming a rarity. Both repair and build things on a small scale, which is a necessity of modern life, but fast disappearing in the new computer age.
Andrew David Watson, directed the film above for Cast & Salvage, a shop located in Philadelphia, PA, that builds and repairs old motorcycles. The film is described as “A homage to all craftspeople who spend their winters tucked inside their workshops waiting for better weather”.
You can visit with Cast & Salvage here and Andrew David Watson here, the music is by Huma-Huma and it was found via The Silodrome.
This second film shows the Central Texas Tool Co. of Abilene, Texas, which is a four generation machine, repair and welding shop. The shop does most of its work for oil pumping companies, but also does a little bit of everything along with every day repair work.
Watch as Tom, Tommy & Pierce Carpenter arrive for work in their pre war Ford pickup truck and go on to a days work in the shop and describe how it operates and its history. We guarantee that you will also enjoy this film by The Texas Country Reporter, Bob Phillips.

How nice to see this life is still here. My mechanic who is now in his early 70′s still does his “Mom and Pop” auto repair shop. I’m lucky I can stop and help out now and then, because I know they won’t be around very much longer with this economy. To these crafts people I say, bravo. You are the nations pride.
That v ideo about Texas Tool Co. made me tear up a little. I wish like crazy my job didn’t require spending all day on a computer and I could create with machine tools and welders intead of a keyboard. I love the internet for the information it gives me access to, but for the most part I could leave computers otherwise if I had that option. What a great video, thanks for sharing it.
