Mary C. Folwell at the wheel of the Folwells’ 1906 Model 24 Packard, the first car purchased by her husband P. Donald Folwell. P.D Folwell was an early car enthusiast who participated in the Philadelphia to Atlantic City Reliability Runs, served as a representative to the AAA Contest Board for many years, and was President of the Quaker City Motor Club in 1908. This organization ran the very successful Fairmount Park Races held from 1908 to 1911.
Folwell was also a strong supporter of the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) in its early years. The Second, Third, and Fourth Annual Outings (1939, 1940, and 1941) of the AACA were held at the Merion, Pa. home of the Folwells. In addition, he was a speaker at the first annual club banquet of the AACA held on March 1, 1941.
