Starter Bill Vanderwater throws the green flag to start a midget feature race, which was possibly run at Soldier Field in Chicago. One of the drivers in this event was the well know racer Tony Bettenhausen. July 20, 1947.

Not quite the paparazzi photo you see today, but here is an early photo of baseball star Honus Wagner who played from 1897-1917 and was in the first class elected into the Hall of Fame in 1936. The car is an unknown (to me) 1911 or 1912 of considerable size.
Here’s an early Overland, 1911, I believe that was cut-down for racing. Notice the enthusiastic looks all around, especially the youngster behind the car. The license plate appears to be a 1916 Oregon.
