Tag Archives: Case
This Case was run in the 1912 Indianapolis 500 by Eddie Hearne but went out with a burned bearing. Lou Disbrow, seen below also entered another Case in the 500 with a slightly different body and his car went out with a differential problem.
The car showed up at the Old Orchard beach races in 1912 and these photos from the Peter Helck collection show it above on the midway, and below with Disbrow behind the wheel. There may have been two races there that year, one possibly in June and the other in August. We have only been able to find results for one of the races (below) but it is undated. We cannot for sure document where this car placed or even if it ended up running, as there may have been another Case in this event which we have covered earlier. Photos courtesy of Racemaker Press.
A great photo from the Peter Helck Collection showing us three early racing cars. The event was a race in Libertyville Ill. on Aug. 9, 1913. On the left are the Case “Jay Eye See,” and the Simplex Zip taking a break while a Mercer Raceabout in the background is seen running in qualifying heat or another race. The Algonquin Hill Climb south east of Chicago was a well known and followed event on the racing and hill climb calendar. The postcard above shows well know racer “Louie” Strang, who along with his Case team won both classes that they were entered in, taking both 1st and 2nd places. The article below from The Automobile, June 15, 1911, is quite interesting and tells all about the famous climb. The Old Motor postcard.
