A photo from the Alden Handy album with a note that reads “Duesenberg J Beverly” along with a date of 1953. According to the Duesenberg book, The Pursuit of Perfection that the late Fred Roe wrote, this beautiful Beverly sedan was designed by Gordon Buehrig in 1929. It was very popular and the Murphy body Co. built about twelve examples. The factory price quoted in 1932 was $16,500 for a completed car. When Murphy went out of business in 1932 the Rollston Body Co. built two more.
Photos below from Fred Roe which show the exquisite interior in a Beverly. We know at least two have survived and there are probably more. Roe states in his book, “The exceptionally attractive appearance of the Beverly body and its fine interior appointments account for the high survival rate of the style”. We can assume that having survived into the fifties the car pictured may be one of the survivors. Photo courtesy of Joe Puleo.
