Tag Archives: Firestone Non-Skid Tires
A photo showing a worker applying the world famous NON-SKID tread onto tire casings at the factory. It was a brilliant advertising idea which on the dirt roads of the time left Firestones trade name where ever it went. There were two different tread patterns pro-duced. The photo on the left below, dated Feb. 1909 shows the first design while the one on the right shows the more familiar design they came out with by 1912.
You will note above that the tires above are light in color. This was in the time before it was found that carbon black added to the white or gray rubber of the time toughened up the composition of the rubber and allowed tires to last much longer.
